Just 12 months ago, Griffith University medical students with backgrounds in AI, Ahash Ganeshamoorthy and Ibrahim Zaky, both joined Cohort Innovation Space’s NextGen Student Incubator with a vision to turn patient anatomy into life changing clinical insights.
Today, the 23 and 24 year old co-founders of Toralis Labs have graduated from Australia’s leading HealthTech accelerator, LuminaX (LX Health), built relationships with clinicians and hospital executives, and are now working to accelerate the development and commercialisation of their technology across the country.
Toralis Labs develops patient-specific surgical digital twins for vascular intervention, procedural planning, and device-risk insight. They use AI-powered, physics-based digital twins to transform patient CT and MRI scans into personalised vascular models that predict device performance and procedural risks before surgery.
Their startup journey launched through the NextGen Pre-accelerator program delivered by Cohort Innovation Space in partnership with the Queensland Government and Griffith University.
With backgrounds spanning medicine and artificial intelligence, Ahash and Ibrahim entered NextGen with an early concept but limited experience in building a business. Over the course of the programme, they worked through customer discovery, MVP development, commercialisation, marketing and investor pitching, while receiving guidance from experienced founders and industry mentors.
Working alongside experienced mentors, they refined both their business model and their pitch, laying the groundwork for a successful application into the highly competitive LuminaX HealthTech Accelerator.
“We were connected with real-world entrepreneurs and investors who helped us turn an abstract idea I worked on after class into a concrete plan for a startup, giving us a clearer path to test it in the real world and see where it could make an impact in medicine.,” said Ahash Ganeshamoorthy.
Each year, LuminaX selects just 10 startups from across Australia to participate in its intensive 14-week accelerator program, making it one of the country’s most competitive HealthTech accelerators.
LuminaX is also one of only a handful of accelerator programs nationally to receive Early Stage Innovation Company (ESIC) eligibility. Startups accepted into the program automatically receive 50 of the 100 points required under the ESIC test, helping unlock valuable tax incentives for early-stage investors.

After completing the 2026 LuminaX HealthTech Accelerator in July, the Toralis Labs team is now focused on commercial growth, engaging with investors and building partnerships with clinicians as they prepare for the next stage of the business.
“We’ve received incredible support from the healthtech community here on the Gold Coast. We were introduced to Dr Venu Bhamidi, Director of Vascular Surgery, and Shaurin Shah from the Gold Coast University Hospital, and they gave us the clinical insight and connections we needed to take Toralis further,” said Ibrahim Zaky.
“Through those relationships, we’ve also been connected with hospital executives and the wider Gold Coast Health & Knowledge Precinct, which has been incredibly valuable in helping us push the boundaries of health innovation.”
Now based at Cohort Innovation Space, Ahash and Ibrahim continue to build Toralis Labs alongside a growing community of founders, mentors and industry partners. Their journey demonstrates how the right combination of education, mentorship and accelerator support can help transform promising student ideas into investment-ready HealthTech companies.
As Toralis Labs enters its next phase of growth, the team is well positioned to make a meaningful impact on Australia’s healthcare sector and Cohort Innovation Space is excited to help them along their way.
