Cohort Announces Partnership with NASA International Space Apps Challenge.
Cohort Innovation Space is proud to announce their partnership with the NASA International Space Apps Challenge, taking place on October 3 and 4, 2020.
NASA’s International Space Apps Challenge is the world’s largest global hackathon, engaging thousands of citizens in different cities across the globe to use NASA’s open source data to build innovative solutions to challenges we face on Earth and in space.
CoSpaces General Manager, Ariana Margetts, said Cohort Innovation Space is thrilled to help bring this international initiative to the Gold Coast and provide opportunities for local founders, entrepreneurs, scientists, and students to take part in a global event.
“Cohort are proud to support this initiative and are excited to watch the Gold Coast science and innovation communities come together over a 48-hour sprint to design and create solutions for real-world problems in the space sector” Ms Margetts said.
The 2020 challenge comprises of 7 subcategories; Observe, Inform, Sustain, Create, Confront, Connect, and Invent.
The virtual event will officially launch on Saturday October 3 at 9am, live from the Cohort Innovation Space webinar studio. Final pitches are due for submission by 11.59pm on Sunday October 4.
Gold Coast local lead, Dominique MacDonald, said the Gold Coast is the perfect location to host this challenge, leveraging our rich spirit of innovation and collaboration.
“As a current university student, I know how many students love a hackathon – but often, news of these do not reach our general student body in sufficient time for student entry” Ms MacDonald said.
“By bringing the Space Apps challenge to the Gold Coast, I also hope that this will provide more opportunity to see collaboration in our community – between students, professionals, hobbyists, and everyone in between.”
Winners of the Space Apps challenge will be selected from an esteemed industry panel, featured on the Space Apps website and social media, and will receive an invitation to present their projects to NASA personnel.
If travel is deemed safe, the winners will also be invited to visit a NASA site with the Space Apps Global Organizing Team to view a spacecraft launch.
Registrations are now open for the Gold Coast NASA Space Apps Challenge.
