SecureStack joins Cybermerc to deliver World-first threat sharing platform.
Gold Coast based startup SecureStack will join Cybermerc, Australian National University, Vault Cloud, Anomali and Countersight to build AUSHIELD Defend, a world-first Threat Sharing Platform with support from AustCyber’s $15 million Project Fund.
The AUSHIELD Defend project is a collaboration by some of Australia’s top cyber minds, with aims to supercharge the industry and strengthen Australia’s resources to combat cybercrime.
The project was announced earlier this week as one of AustCyber’s investments into innovative cybersecurity projects as they seek to support the development of a vibrant and globally competitive Australian cyber security sector.
SecureStack is fast-growing DevSecOps startup who recently represented Australia at the AustCyber Austrade Australian Cyber Security Mission to the USA.
SecureStack’s automation and deployment technology was selected for the AUSHIELD Defend project, where they will build the underlying technology of the platform. All subscribers will interact with the platform using SecureStack technology once the project is live.
In a world where data is more valuable than oil, it is critical that the Australian cyber security sector consistently develops new technologies and research and best defend Australia from threatening cyber security breaches and hacks.
The most valuable data is that of current, real-world attacks targeting private networks and real targets, like big business and governing bodies.
The AUSHIELD Defend project works by collecting and securing current cyber-attack data on sovereign cloud infrastructure before making this resource available to the Australian cyber security ecosystem.
SecureStack CTO, Paul McCarty said the investment in the sector, and the data generated from the project will significantly strengthen Australia’s cyber security capabilities to block malicious threats.
“We are excited to be a part of a project that will help the educational, government AND private sector be more secure by building smarter infrastructure in sovereign providers.”
“SecureStack is the only technology in the world that can build the same secure workloads in private sovereign clouds that we can in the public cloud” McCarty said.
In the Austcyber announcement earlier this month, Michelle Price, CEO of AustCyber said AustCyber’s funding towards Cybermerc’s $2.44M Project could not have come at a more important time.
“AustCyber’s Projects Fund is one of our key mechanisms used to identify and support cyber security through to commercialisation in Australia. The increasing reliance on technology as a result of COVID-19, and the subsequent rise in cyber attacks and cyber crime, has highlighted the importance of protecting our virtual infrastructure and digital information” Price said.

SecureStack helps software developers find security & scalability gaps in their web applications and offer ways to fix those gaps without forcing those developers to become security experts. The results are faster time to business and 60%-70% reduction in the application attack surface. To support Australia’s cybersecurity community, SecureStack is releasing a 3rd product to the market that provides developers a free scan of their applications.
